What is the lodging tax?

Communes can require tenants staying on their territory to pay a lodging tax. The amount of the lodging tax is freely determined by the commune, within the limits set by law. An additional tax can also be imposed by the department (10%) or the region (for example, the Île-de-France region recently introduced an additional “Grand Paris” tax of 15%).
